In autumn 2023, Corodo proudly added a new workshop to our offerings, called ‘From basketball to the workplace’. The innovative concept, in which we analyse high-level basketball games and subsequently link them to an ambitious work environment, is gaining success among numerous SMEs today.
“I’ll never be able to do this”
One team that personally experienced how pertinent the connection is between elite sport and a high-performance corporate culture was that of Creatic Digital Agency. We let the agency’s creative minds, whose playing field is normally confined to a computer, loose for an afternoon in the sports hall for an interactive coaching session. Uh-oh!
The marketers, web developers and other digital experts faced not only a basketball ring, but also a challenge outside their comfort zone. And while some immediately dared to throw themselves into it like fearless professionals, the thought ‘I’ll never be able to do this in my life’ was almost palpable in others.
Which is a hurdle because if you lose faith in your own abilities beforehand, is there any margin left to perform? Or to even try? We instructed them to repeat simple dribbling exercises with a clear rhythm, thus not only calming the players but also bringing them into a state of great concentration.
Uncertainty gave way to curiosity, surprise and a hint of competitiveness. Soon any hesitation had been overcome and they scored without a thought, instinctively. And that is precisely the power of the workshop: you experience first-hand the crucial importance of rhythm and an open mindset. On the sports field as well as the workplace.
Of course, it takes more than good rhythm to score, individually and with your colleagues. Therefore, during the workshop, the team members (thankfully) not only worked up a sweat, but also brainstormed at length about the striking similarities between a high-level basketball match and their mutual cooperation.
Scoring based on instinct
Web and brand manager Manon is already convinced: “When we score with Creatic, it is a team effort. We saw the same at the basketball match, only now did the ingredients we need to make each other shine become crystal clear. Passing the ball to each other, at the right time and position, for a higher common goal. That’s what it’s all about.”
